2017 Solo and Ensemble Festival
The annual Solo and Ensemble Festival gives students an opportunity to excel individually or in small instrumental groups. Students may select their own music (with the directors’ approval) or directors will assist in the selection. This event is very beneficial to the development of our total band program. The Festival is open to any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade band students who want to participate. A signup sheet has been posted in the band room for students to sign should they want to participate. Please encourage your child to sign up!
Due to the rising costs of the KMEA’s Solo and Ensemble, I have decided to provide our students our own Solo and Ensemble event. I will be inviting multiple professional band directors to not only judge our solo and ensemble students, but to offer feedback and instruction as well. This will be a huge learning opportunity for our students that they may not receive otherwise.
Instead of charging the students $6.00 per solo and $12.00 per ensemble, I will be asking each student for a $5.00 donation (total) to help pay for the judges and their lunch.
In order to keep our Solo and Ensemble Assessment to under four hours, we will need to limit each student to the following: one solo and/or three ensembles. This will allow each student/event seven to ten minutes to perform and receive coaching from the judge.
Thank you and again, please encourage your child to sign up!
